Typical components in the mould powder are:
- Glass formers - (SiO2, Al2O3, B2O3, Fe2O3)
- Basic Oxides - (CaO, MgO, BaO)
- Alkali - (Na2O, Li2O, K2O)
- Fluidizers - (F2, MnO)
- Melt control - C

The primary mould fluxes functions are:
- protection of the liquid metal surface from air oxidation
- thermal insulation of the metal surface
- absorption of non metallic inclusions
- lubrication at mould/steel interface
- control of heat transfer

SANTALIT - SNT is recommended for all steel grades cast and various profiles of semi finished casts at speeds 0.4 - 1.8 m/min. The application is manual. The consumption is 0.8 - 1.1kg/t steel.
